UNDERSTANDING THE  RESULTS AND GRADES        

          GCSE Grade Descriptors: 

GRADE

DESCRIPTION

C1

The student will definitely achieve a GCSE C grade and may achieve a GCSE B grade. 

C2

At the current rate of progress the student is expected to achieve a GCSE C grade. 

C3

The student is expected to achieve a GCSE C grade but is very borderline and could receive a D grade.  The student must work hard to ensure the grade does not drop to a GCSE D grade.

D1

The student will definitely achieve a D grade and may achieve a GCSE C grade with hard work. 

D2

At the current rate of progress the student is expected to achieve a GCSE D grade.  The student must work hard to ensure a C grade is allowed instead.

D3

The student is expected to achieve a D grade and is unlikely to get a C grade.  There will need to be a fundamental change in work patterns, attitude, attendance, coursework quality and completion to ensure a GCSE C grade.

 

          BTEC Level Descriptors

F

Fail.

R1

25% of work completed.

R2

50% of work completed.

R3

75% of work completed.

P

Pass, equivalent to a GCSE C grade.

M

Merit, equivalent to a GCSE B grade.

D

Distinction, equivalent to a GCSE A grade.

D*

Distinction *, equivalent to a GCSE A* grade.

     

 Please Note:

 

  • Target grades are based on 3 levels of progress from KS2-KS4 and indicate the grade students should obtain at the end of KS4, Year 11.
  • BTEC Science and BTEC PE (2) are worth two GCSEs, BTEC PE First Diploma, BTEC Art First Diploma, BTEC Construction First Diploma, BTEC First Diploma in Creative Performing Arts and BTEC Business First Diplomas are worth 4 GCSEs each.
  • Many BTEC subjects will not show an Exam grade as they are coursework based.
