Announcement
Year 7 & 8 Assessment Week-Tuesday 6th January to Friday 16th January 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
As part of our commitment to supporting academic progress, all Year 7&8 pupils will undertake mid-year assessments in each of their subjects during the week commencing Tuesday 6th January.
These assessments are a vital part of our curriculum and play a key role in preparing students for future success. Students will be assessed on the knowledge and skills they have developed this academic year. In addition, some assessments will include content from previous years of Key Stage 3 to ensure a broad understanding of subject material.
All assessments will take place during regular timetabled lessons, with their normal subject teacher informing students of the exact date/lesson in advance. To support students in their preparation, teachers will provide clear guidance on the topics and skills to revise. ‘Pre-assessment’ lessons will be delivered during normal lesson time, focusing on revision techniques, reviewing key content, and addressing any questions students may have. Revision lists and topic summaries will also be shared to assist with home study.
We would also like to remind you of our Homework and Study Club, which runs daily after school in the library from 3:00pm to 4:00pm (Monday to Friday, excluding Friday Week B).
This is an excellent opportunity for students to complete revision activities, homework, and independent study in a supportive environment. I will be speaking to students in assemblies over the next few weeks to outline our expectations for assessment week, and subject teachers will begin discussing assessment content and preparation strategies during lessons.
We recognise that assessment periods can be challenging for some students. If your child is experiencing stress or anxiety related to assessments, please do not hesitate to contact Head of Year 7 Ms Lumsden/ Head of Year 8 Ms Steel or a member of our safeguarding team at safeguarding@ecaterham.net.
Your Support
We kindly ask for your continued support in encouraging your child to take these assessments seriously. They offer a valuable opportunity for students to demonstrate their progress and for teachers to identify and address any gaps in understanding.
Consistent school attendance is essential to your child’s academic success. National data clearly shows that pupils who attend school regularly achieve better outcomes. Teachers rely on having students present in the classroom to deliver effective teaching and learning. Please ensure your child attends school punctually every day. Thank you for your ongoing support. We wish your child every success in their upcoming assessments.
Yours Sincerely
Mr C Hunter
Assistant Headteacher
